The Senior Leadership of the Somaliland Medical Association (SLMA) participated in a high-level Physician Leadership Workshop organized by the Coalition of African National Medical Associations (CANMA), with the support and collaboration of the World Medical Association (WMA), held in Livingstone, Zambia.
The workshop brought together leaders of national medical associations from across Africa to strengthen leadership capacity, promote collaboration, and explore ways of building stronger and more effective medical associations. It provided an important platform for African physician leaders to exchange experiences, learn from one another, and discuss common challenges and opportunities facing the medical profession and healthcare systems across the continent.
The training focused on key areas of modern health leadership, organizational development, advocacy, communication, collaboration, and strengthening the voice of physicians in health policy and decision-making. Participants also discussed the important role that national medical associations can play in advocating for doctors, promoting professional standards and medical ethics, and contributing to the development of stronger and more resilient healthcare systems.
The sessions were facilitated by senior leaders and experts from CANMA, the WMA, and Africa CDC, who shared their knowledge and experiences on leadership and the future role of medical associations in Africa. The workshop emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among African medical associations and strengthening connections with regional and international partners.

The knowledge, experience, and networks gained through such platforms will contribute to the continued development of SLMA and its efforts to support physicians and contribute to the advancement of healthcare in Somaliland.
