The President of the Somaliland Medical Association (SLMA), Dr. Yusuf Mohamed, participated in the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026, an international conference focused on advancing healthcare across Africa and achieving high-quality, affordable healthcare services for all.

The meeting was held at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) and brought together more than 3,000 health leaders from over 80 countries around the world. Participants included 16 African ministers of health; representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; as well as universities, hospitals, health insurance companies, and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

The meeting was officially opened by the President of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto, together with senior officials from the United Nations Office at Nairobi.

The theme of this year's meeting was "Reimagining Africa's Health Systems: Innovation, Integration, and Solidarity.”

Discussions focused on strengthening African leadership and domestic financing of health systems, accelerating progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) across the continent by 2030.

Health ministers from 16 African countries shared experiences, challenges, and solutions aimed at improving healthcare delivery, with particular emphasis on innovation, partnership, and regional cooperation.

More than 400 experts spoke during the event, and over 80 side sessions were held, covering key topics such as healthcare quality, health financing, digital health, workforce development, and the strengthening of resilient and sustainable health systems.

The World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 provided an important platform for international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective action to build stronger health systems capable of delivering equitable and sustainable healthcare for all people across Africa.
